THE NEW GUCCI BOSS
GUCCI is expected to announce today that Frida Giannini is now in charge of menswear at the house, as well as womenswear and accessories, following the resignation of John Ray. Ray, who took over in March last year, has cited personal reasons for his departure, according to WWD. Giannini, whose initial accessories collections received rave reviews after Tom Ford left in March 2004, took over the womenswear from Alessandra Facchinetti after just one season. Described by co-workers as a "volcano of ideas, a hard worker and unafraid of challenges", the 32-year-old designer has remained determined in the face of mixed reviews for her womenwear and is credited with wooing Madonna, Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow back into the Gucci label. The house is expected to put on two shows for the first time during Milan Fashion Week this season in a bid to accommodate everybody keen to see the show. (January 31 2006, AM) vogue.co.uk
