Similar in body shape to a New Zealand Snapper, but with a more pointed nose. Terakihi are coloured white on the belly, and silver-gray on the back, with a distinctive black band, like a "saddle," halfway down each side behind the gill covers. Can grow to over 2 feet in length. Tarakihi are found in most offshore areas of New Zealand, but especially off the North Island`s eastcoast between Eastcape and Wellington.
