okk  I  admit  that  I`m  really  confused  cuz  this  friend  of  mine  just  msn  me  and  said  like  I`d  like  to  hook  up  with  you

so  I  was  like  ummm.....
don`t  really  know  if  I  should  ask  him  if  he  wants  a  date  or  just  sex

It  depends  on  the  situation.  It  doesn`t  always  mean  "want  to  have  a  date".  For  example,  you  can  use  it  to  invite  your  cowrokers  to  have  a  lunch  together    --  "Let`s  hook  up  for  a  lunch".  Maybe  your  coworker  can`t  make  it.  Then  you  can  say  "Oh,  then  I`ll  hook  up  with  you  next  week.  "

You  can  say  "I  want  to  hook  up  with  you"  to  your  girl  pals  too.  It  means  you  want  to  spend  time  together,  to  do  something  together  with  your  good  girl  pals.       

If  it`s  a  guy  says  "Hey,  we  should  hook  up  sometime"  to  you.  It  means  that  he  suggests  you  two  should  go  out  together  sometime.  He  means  he  want  to  have  a  date  with  you  (and  get  to  know  you  better).  He  wants  to  hang  out  with  you,  do  some  stuffs  together.  Having  a  date  doesn`t  necessarily  mean  having  sex.  Don`t  think  too  much.  It`s  a  very  common  idom  in  American  English.

well  this  guy  is  like  my  classmate,  we  talk  like...less  than  15  times  I  believe

the  things  is...I  actually  ask  a  lot  of  my  friends  about  this

I  actually  said  "yea  sure"  when  he  asked  for  hook  up,  cuz  at  first  I  thought  it`s  just  "hang  out"

and  I  told  my  best  friend  about  it,  she`s  like,  oh  my  god  you  idiot  do  you  know  what  hook  up  means?  and  then  she`s  saying  on  he`s  just  wanna  have  sex  with  you  and  stuff  like  that

then  I  ask  some  other  friends,  basically  1/3  said  "just  hang  out",  1/3  said  "a  date",  1/3  said  "sex"

so  haha  I  guess  I`m  just  kinda  confused  XD
