This case study is investigating the consuming behavior of tourists buying 文旦 in the 麻豆 region.
After the implementation of 週休二日, people have become more interested in leisure activities. Consequently, the amount that the tourists spend while sight-seeing would also increase.
Although people tend to think of 文旦 when they talk about 麻豆, 文旦 is not the only agricultural product in the 麻豆 region.
Apart from the natural environment, the growing of 文旦 in 麻豆 relates back to a historical incident. As a result of the influence of the history, the growing of 文旦 has not come into being purely on the basis of profit. This creates the dual characteristics of 文旦- "Product" and "Gift" - to local people.
Due to the unique systems of production and of 文旦, the social connection in the 麻豆 region has further intensified, allowing 文旦 to be a symbol of 麻豆.
