從國外回台灣工作的水水請進

Just  want  to  share  what  I  think.
I  heard  of  Taiwan`s  working  environment  isn`t  well  compared  to  the  USA`s.    After  graduation,  I  went  to  Japan  to  work  for  2  years.    Then  I  returned  to  the  USA  and  worked  2  years.    Now,  I`m  looking  for  a  new  job.   
I`ve  never  worked  in  Taiwan  but  from  what  I  heard,  benefits,  policy,  environment  and  etc.  are  not  as  good  as  USA`s.   
Working  in  Taiwan  isn`t  something  that  I`m  looking  for  because  my  family  is  all  in  the  USA  and  I`m  also  a  citizen  here.

How  did  you  find  your  job  in  Shanghai?    I`m  thinking  of  working  in  Shanghai  next  fall.
If  you  have  any  information,  recommendations  or  suggestions  regarding  working  in  Shanghai,  pls  inform.

Speaking  about  being  an  international  student  try  to  get  a  job,  my  friends  and  I  have  actually  started  a  bit  of  job  search  on  our  own,  but  all  we  have  been  getting  is  some  pretty  discouraging  stuff…

Sigh,  hum…let’s  see,  where  shall  my  bitching  begin?

My  school  have  this  online  campus  recruiting  service  that  basically  allow  students  in  my  school  to  have  the  access  to  the  database  and  apply  for  firms  that  will  be  conducting  selective  interviews  on  campus.

Students  can  submit  their  resumes  and  cover  letters  electronically  and  go  through  the  process  of  getting  screened  by  the  firms  that  they  apply.   

Because  this  database  is  created  by  the  school  and  is  therefore  linked  through  entire  school’s  database;  the  system  knows  clearly  who  is  an  international  student  with  F-1  visa  and  who  isn’t.     

The  online  campus  recruiting  service  also  allows  the  employers  to  choose  the  criteria  of  students  who  are  applying.    Students  who  do  not  meet  the  criteria  that  are  set  up  by  the  company  will  not  be  able  to  submit  anything.   

If  an  employer  sets  up  the  criteria  to  be  “US  citizen  or  permanent  resident  only”  international  students  won’t  be  able  to  submit  their  resume,  cover  letter,  transcripts,  etc….  So  the  probability  of  getting  that  particular  job  for  any  international  students  who  are  interested  equals  ZERO.     

This  to  me,  is  like  someone  just  bitch  slap  my  face  and  tell  me  to  shut  up  before  I  could  even  utter  anything  out  of  my  month.

For  God’s  sakes,  it  has  been  9  years  ever  since  I  started  my  education  in  the  US  and  all  that  hard  work  and  the  time  that  I’ve  put  in,  companies  won’t  even  bother  to  take  a  glance  at  my  resume.   

I  clearly  know  that  whatever  the  Americans  can  do,  I  can  get  it  done  just  as  the  way  it  should  be  or  I  can  even  outperform  them.    The  fact  that  I  wasn’t  born  in  the  US  doesn’t  mean  I  am  dump,  doesn’t  mean  that  I  don’t  have  the  required  education  background,  and  clearly  does  not  mean  that  I  don’t  have  the  skills  and  experiences  that  the  recruiters  are  looking  for.     

Honestly,  throughout  these  9  years  in  US,  I  have  never  been  discriminated  as  an  Asian  but  I  have  been  discriminated  gazillion  times  for  being  an  international  student.           

Some  of  you  might  have  been  international  students  (just  like  me)  back  then  when  you  were  still  in  school,  did  what  I  mentioned  above  trigger  some  of  your  thoughts  when  you  were  still  a  student? 

Someone  mentioned  networking  can  be  helpful,  which  I  don’t  disagree.    However,  when  time  comes,  legal  work  authorization  and  visa  become  the  key  issues  for  securing  an  offer.

I  really  wonder  now  that  if  firms  are  actually  willing  to  sponsor  H-1s  to  undergrads,  who  generally  have  less  experience  than  others  in  the  human  capital  market.

我們學校有很多job  fair
但對int`l  student來說  business  or  engineering  major特別難找工作  (for  undergraduate)

很多公司是明白表示不收F-1學生(拿I20的)
我其中有朋友還是IE  major
從小出國讀書  高中4.0  大學3.8  GPA
參加很多課外活動  也很多internship  experience
但是大部份公司一知道她是F-1  連面試機會都沒有
忙了好久
現在好不容易找到multi-national的公司上班

另一同學ComE  是拿加拿大籍
但是對美國人來說  還是international  student
畢業半年  還沒找到工作

也許我只是都見到不好的例子
but  these  experiences  make  me  so  frustrated

回國後，找工作好像還算好運，或者我比較容易知足，對現況算滿意。

加班這事儿~~~~是蠻煩的，不過我還是比較美式的作風吧，我可以提前到公司，我也一定要盡量準時下班，因為我要有我的生活。    不過，難免還是遇到白目的人，下班前五分鐘丟東西給你做~~~唉~~~能說啥米呢~~~
為啥米我要為別人的錯負責~~~~

生活中一定不盡如人意吧~~~現在我能適應台灣特有的文化了，呵呵~~~

不過上司也跟我說過，其實誰真的在做事，就如學生時代時，老師在講台上是看得一清二楚~~~

Thank  you  for  your  kind  detailed  reply.    Can  you  give  me  the  websites  that  you  used  for  searching  job  in  Shanghai?    Even  though  I`m  not  going  to  be  able  to  apply  now,  they  will  be  good  references.     

I`ve  been  to  Shanghai  for  traveling  2  years  ago  and  I  was  amazed  how  modern  the  city  was.    I`m  sure  there  are  many  big  foreign  companies  and  firms  there.   

Just  from  my  curiosity,  why  you  went  to  Shanghai  to  work?  Was  it  only  because  you  wanted  to  live  there?

我本身也是在澳洲讀書的
我想回台灣也只是因為我爸在台灣,我想回去陪他的關係
其實我很同意上面一些在美國讀過書的人說的
我覺得亞洲人要在外國人的公司闖出一片天下是很難的,除非是ABC吧!
我想這也就是為什麼那麼多出國唸書的人要回台灣工作的原因之一吧!
但說真的,雖然我在澳洲時間不短,可是我從不會因此批評台灣多不好或是什麼的!
所以我很討厭那些只出國一兩年就一副不是台灣人的樣子,假裝是ABC,然後痛批台灣哪裡不好的人!
如果真那麼不喜歡台灣的話,不要回去啊!
如果國外真那麼好的話,就在國外找工作啊!
說真的,每個國家都不一樣,因為在國外待久了,難免想法上會有點不一樣,所以再回台灣工作的話,可能要花很長一段時間適應
但我覺得,有沒有"心"最重要吧!
如果你今天是抱著台灣環境差的心態的話,就不要回去了吧!

我覺得在國外也不見的好吧 

    像我叔叔之前在美國不過就一個小小研究員  之前一回台灣  就在一家公司當副總經理    公司還給他一個團隊專門研究公司產品    所以最後他們一家也都回來台灣拉    我堂哥是美國公民  算是滿厲害的吧  也是被公司的美國人排擠  現在不停在外調  想回去也不行  簡而言之  不同膚色  不管多努力  升遷的永遠不是你  不管他們嘴上說在好聽  沒有歧視    還不是根深蒂固的白人至上    除非你是去LA  那種亞洲人很多的吧 

    而且我聽說歐美有些公司為了保障當地人的權利  請外國人工作要提出報告說  因為你找不到比這個外國人更好的人  所以要請他  不然要罰款之類的   

      雖然我的朋友很多都要在美國工作    可是我還是想回台灣  因為我覺得我又沒比別人差多少    為什麼要做二等公民  做的要死    功勞都別人收穫  只因為我是亞洲人

I  would  like  to  share  some  fee  information  with  F-1  students.

Fee  for  H-1B  applications:

If  your  employer  with  no  more  than  25  Full-Time  Employees:
$750  (American  Competitiveness  and  Workforce  Improvement  Act)  +  $185    (Basic  Filing  Fee)  +  $500  (Fraud  Detention  Fee)+  $1000  (Premium  Processing  Fee.  If  you  wish  have  your  case  decided  within  15  days)=  $2435  +  $1500  (average  attory  fee)  =  $3935

If  your  employer  has  more  than  25  Full-Time  Employees  (including  any  afflication  or  subsidiaries):  WCWIA  fee  increases  to  $1000.  Thus,  the  total  fees  for  an  H-1B  would  be  $  4185

My  advise,  apply  your  H-1B  soon  when  quota  first  becomes  avaliable  to  aviod  the  $1000  premium  processing  fee. 

The  bottom  line  quesiton  is:  Do  you  want  to  strive  a  success  in  Taiwan  or  outside  of  Taiwan?  One`s  situation  varies.  No  good  or  bad  decision.

I  can`t  really  move  to  overseas  now  so  I  can  only  do  some  research  for  future  reference.   
Living  in  Shanghai  is  only  a  thought.    I  don`t  know  how  will  it  turn  out. 
My  Japanese  friend  in  working  in  Shanghai  right  now.    She  likes  there.    Do  you  like  working  and  living  there?

其實要回來台灣早就該有覺悟
而且我覺得台灣錢少歸少
出國後我反而比較喜歡台灣
