"Drawings"  by  Fabien  Baron  from  December  4th  -  30th,  2006  @  Colette,  Paris

An  exhibition  of  personal  work  by  Fabien  Baron  for  the  first  time  in  France.  Founder  and  artistic  director  of  Baron  &  Baron,  Fabien  Baron  is  the  all-time  originator  when  it  comes  to  making  a  mark  and  establishing  one`s  sense  of  visual  identity.  As  influential  as  they  come,  he  is  responsible  for  upping  the  style  quota  and  kickstarting  brand  awareness  for  some  of  the  biggest  names  in  the  business  (Calvin  Klein,  Burberry,  Balenciaga,  etc),  as  well  as  carving  a  presence  for  beauty  brands  and  perfumes  (Viktor  &  Rolf),  and  can  also  claim  credit  for  the  appearance  overhaul  of  assorted  leading  magazines  (Vogue,  Harper`s  Bazaar)  and  majestic  publications.  (Colette  newsletter)

The  Triumph  of  Eros:  Art  and  Seduction  in  18th  Century  France

At  the  Hermitage  Rooms,Somerset  House,London


This  exhibition  brings  together  a  wide  range  of  material  from  the  Hermitage`s  rich  collections,  including  paintings,  drawings,  furniture  and  a  recently  discovered  group  of  prints  depicting  scenes  from  the  education  of  Eros  to  explore  the  theme  of  art  and  seduction  in  18th  century  French  culture.

Housed  in  the  period  setting  of  the  Hermitage  Rooms,  the  exhibition  will  offer  a  sumptuous  visual  experience  uncovering  the  complex  language  of  eroticism  in  the  fine  and  decorative  arts.

Uncomfortable  Truths  will  address  the  ways  in  which  the  legacy  of  slavery  informs  contemporary  art  and  design  in  a  display  of  a  series  of  works  throughout  the  museum’s  public  spaces.  This  exhibition  of  new  and  specially  commissioned  work  will  commemorate  the  bicentenary  of  the  Parliamentary  abolition  of  the  Trans-Atlantic  Slave  Trade,  seeking  to  reassess  the  human  cost  of  slavery.

The  exhibition  will  feature  the  work  of  artists  from  the  United  States  (Michael  Paul  Britto  and  Fred  Wilson),  Britain  (Anissa-Jane,  Lubaina  Himid,  Keith  Piper  and  Yinka  Shonibare),  Africa  (El  Anatsui,  Tapfuma  Gutsa,  Romuald  Hazoumé  and  Julien  Sinzogan)  and  Europe  (Christine  Meisner).
