again, agree w/ upstairs...altho i can't explain my point dat well n organized...i still think the relationship btw tw n mainland china is undeniable n indisputable. when ppl ask where i'm from, i say i'm a twnese, but i m proud to be a chinese descent.
ok, since someone brought dis up, let's talk abut americans.
like bigsquare said, if u ask an american student abut her background, she'd tell u something like i'm half irish n a quater of british n a quarter of italian stuffs like dat. n it's "i" m, not my great grandfather was, but i m. n i'd alwayz remember when one of my english teacher stood up proudly to do prayer in dinner at St. Patric's Day. She called herself irish even tho obviously her family has been doin very well in america for generations.
even in america dis meltin pot where ppl w/ different ethnic background marry one another so dat everyone has a complicated background, if they can trace back, everyone of the americans i meet is more than happy to tell u he/she is from. even those who's realli republican w/ american imperialism.
to be honest, even for americans who belong to the largest, strongest country in the world, none of them denies their ethnic background, look at us, what do we hav to be so arrogant as to cut down all the ties? it's just ridiculously ignorant to me. did we just come out of nowhere n evolve from monkeys to humans in dis little island? come on, only macacas dare to say dat they r from tw but nowhere else bah~~~
