  • Dear Applebee,
Very nice to know that you are in Chicago too. You must be asking now why I would know you live in Chicago, because "Dear Fan" told me this good news. I met Fan at Fashionguide a while ago and we went shopping and having dinner in downtown Chicago. That was awesome to be with somebody who are from the same country and speak the same language.
My name is Karen and I live in Bucktown, Chicago which is very close to downtown Chicago. That'll be great if we can get to know each other soon. Hopefully I'll hear from you soon.....
  • I was 家裡移民, too. I came to USA when I was 15. I lived in a small island "Maui" in Hawaii. In Maui, total people who can understand Chinese were only 100 people or less. Of course, in my school, (I was in high school), nobody can speak Chinese to me. Actually, I was the only one who can't speak English. At that time, it was so hard for me.

I cried almost everyday, because I had so many friends when I was in TW, but when I came to Maui, I had no friend at all, and I don't speak English at all. Nobody want to talk to me, actually I don't want to talk to anyone.

However, i have been to Hawaii for 6 years. I already get used to this place. In fact, I don't like to live in Taiwan.

what I want to tell you is... it's VERY hard at beginning, but... that's okay.. take it easy... ^_^

  • I think I'm really lucky (on the other hand, unlucky) to be in a small high scholl where 10% of the population speaks Mandarin. Before I came to this school, I'd imagined how miserable my life would be in the US. I thought I would be a total loner since I wasn't the kind of people that make friends easily and my English sucked ( maybe I should say, has sucked). But it turned out to be fine. My first year first semester roommate really helped me a lot, she's from Taiwan. The school made a mistake on this because international students that speak the same native language aren't supposed to be roommates. It is a beautiful mistake for me whatsoever. Now, the friends I made all speak Mandarina. As the result, the cost is that my English still sucks. I really don't know whether I should be sad about my crappy English or glad that it's not that big of a difference between staying in here and staying in Taiwan. Anwayz, my point is " Go applebee! View your environment as a merit and use it as a tool to practice ur English! We all support you!"
By the way, is it because you like the resturant Applebee's that you use it as your nickname?
